Cooked a pot of red bean on my XL day before yesterday - "Ike Day". We had 40 mph winds all day with gust to 50. I really feel for the folks down the bayous - flooding worse than Rita.

I put a bunch of pecan throughout the lump to see if I could get some smoke into the beans. The smoke was there - not sure if it came from the sausage or direct to the beans but it sure was good.

Picked up some green onion sausage and cooked it first. Then put all the seasoning in a CI pot with a little olive oil.

Added the sausage

Added the red beans, water and some Tony Chachere's - cooked for about 4 hours

Had my brides two sisters along with their husbands over. In addition to the red beans we had a 500 degree chicken and grilled french bread. Power went out (again) and we ate by candlelight. Not many leftovers.

That looks outstanding. Made my stomach growl.
I think I've gained weight over the last two weeks with all this "storm cooking". What about you?

Did a bunch on cooking on my small BGE that we took to Houston with us when we evacuated for Gustav. I flew back to clean up for four days after Gustav and then flew back to pick up my bride and dogs. Lost a fridge and freezer full of stuff including about 300 filets of speckled trout and redfish. Cooked two nights for neighbors but mostly cleaned up the yard and slept under the stars for 3 nights without power. No complaints from this corner and a lot of thoughts and prayers for my friends down the bayou.

I'm afraid Bayou Woman took on a bunch of water at her house and the house that she just redid to rent out as a fishing camp but that's speculation on my part.

Glad you came out OK. Ignore my PM I sent earlier asking about ya.
Let us know if you hear from Bayou Woman. I know what it's like to take water. Not fun. And I know she has put a ton of work into that camp.

Those red beans look better than any I've ever cooked. Would love a bowl for lunch today. We spent the weekend cleaning up and putting things back to normal after the power came back on. It's so nice not to hear the generator running and have power cords through out the house. That was just a little inconvenience compared to what other people went through and I am thankful. I've missed this website and seeing all the food pictures and recipes you guys post. Thanks everyone.

Love the red beans. My mother makes the best in the world and I cannot even come close. She makes them for my birthday every year. Those look good.

*grabs bowl and fills with Redbeans* This is one of my favorite food groups. :D

It looks wonderful! Also, I like the idea of doing it on the grill even when there is electricity. This is a must try.
