Just tried Munjunis on Jefferson. I found it to be above the standard for Italian food in Baton Rouge. The calamari with tomato basil dipping sauce was very good w/ the perfect amount of batter on the calamari. Spaghetti combo 1/2 italian sausage 1/2 meatball was the best spaghetti sauce I have ever had in Baton Rouge - just the right amount of sweetness. I don't know if all the servers are good as the one we had but you could not ask for a better waiter. I always gauge Italian restaurants by thier tomato sauce and this ones a winner. Can't wait to go back and try other items.
I have not eaten there yet but I've heard they use a classic Sicilian type red sauce that is very sweet.... just the way I like it. The old Panetta's on Perkins Rd in Baton Rouge used to have a great sauce.
Gino's has always set the benchmark for Italian in Baton Rouge. Care to compare?

Yes I would surely compare them. I eat at Gino's often and until now it was in my opinion the best spaghetti sauce until I tried Munjunis spaghetti. The sauce is very similer but with a taste of fresh basil and the meat ball is larger and more moist with the right amount of seasoning. Don't get me wrong I will still eat at Gino's but I want to try the other items at Munjunis first. I found everything about my experience there good without the wait, it was at 6:00PM kind of early and people was starting to line up when we left. It's a small place but at the table it feels roomy and not as confined as Gino's. You should try it I am sure you would agree.
Sounds delicious. I'm nudging it up to the top of my \"need to go to\" list. Thanks.

I've been trying to get to Monjunis since I read about the sweet sauce. I rarely eat Italian dishes in restaurants because their sauces are too tart for me. I grew up eating the sweet sauce and can tell you Monjunis sauce was wonderful. I had the Baked Rigatoni. It had a sinful amount of cheese, very yummy, but I would have loved a little bit more of the tasty meat sauce on the rigatoni. I also had one of the best salads ever, it was the Italian House Salad. Order it, you won't be disappointed. :)
