bistro_byronz_IMG_0203.jpgThis week’s cheeseburger trail led us to take a walk on the gourmet side. We had the Bleu Cheese Beaucoup De Burger at Bistro Byronz. Say that ten times! After trying it, I’d rather eat it ten times. Being a bleu cheese fan, I was anxious to try it and it far exceeded my expectations. Although I really like bleu cheese, I understand why many people do not. It can be rather pungent at times. Have no fear, this 10 ounce char grilled burger is perfectly complemented by the bleu cheese drizzle and fine crumbles. It’s not overpowering at all. This beautiful burger is served opened faced on a large freshly baked toasted bun. Katy Touchstone, assistant manager, tells us the bread bistro_byronz_IMG_0218.jpgis made with the same recipe created at the original Byronz. The bun is dressed with fresh spinach leaves and perfectly ripened Roma tomatoes slices. A very nice touch. A mound of golden thin sliced fries lies between the open faced bun and patty.

If I haven’t convinced you to try the Bleu cheese, you can still get the Beaucoup De Burger with a mix of more traditional cheeses with a light cheese sauce. Can’t go gourmet at all? They also serve a Byronz Burger more traditional with lettuce and tomato but with a special family marinade. If you aren’t interested in burgers at all (then you shouldn’t be reading this article), you are still in luck because Byronz has an expansive menu of salads, sandwiches, and entrees.

Bistro Byronz a cool, comfortable, art deco meets Pottery Barn establishment on Government Street in Baton Rouge has been open since January 2006 steadily gaining a loyal following. Like their Beaucoup De Burger ingredients, the architectural elements perfectly complement each other. Black and white tiles, antique mirrors, black crown molding, antiqued bronze fixtures and warm wood floors combine to make a very inviting atmosphere. Katy said when they first opened they tried closing the grill between lunch and dinner and just offering a limited menu. That didn’t last for long. Once patrons had a taste of their burgers they started demanding all day grill service. So now they bistro_byronz_IMG_0223.jpgoffer a full menu Monday through Saturday. Sundays from 11am to 3pm, Byronz serves up brunch but that’s another story, another menu, and another day. But we’ll Be Back to Bistro Byronz perhaps for Brunch, a Byronz Burger or to Belly up to the Bar. And I’m sure it will be good! Yes, this was a notable stop on the Cheeseburger Trail.
