Crawfish Town USA Print E-mail

crawfishtown_stack.jpgOn a recent swing through Breaux Bridge, I ran across a restaurant Ihad actually forgotten about, CrawfishtownUSA. It was once a favorite of mine for boiled crawfish but it was a seasonal restaurant, closing once the crawfish season ended. So I was surprised to see what looked like acres of cars parked out front when I would have expected the whole place to be deserted. Of course I had to stop and check it out.
Now under new ownership, it's much more than just a spot for boiled crawfish. Owners Johnny and Wendy Hebert told me they quickly realized they had to be more than a one trick pony in order to truly be successful. So they expanded their menu to include a variety of fresh Louisiana seafoods prepared in a myriad of ways. They also offer beef, chicken and pork dishes for those so inclined. Now open year round and judging from the crowd of diners, they must be doing something right.
Johnny was kind enough to give me a tour which included his busy kitchen. Everything appeared fresh and inviting. I was especially intrigued by the " La Bam Breme". Pictured here, it features fried eggplant, grilled catfish, crab cake, fried shrimp, and fried oysters stacked high over crawfish etouffe. Wow.
CrawfishtownUSA is located on Hwy 347, a half mile north of the Interstate 10.
