Cajun Country

When one thinks of the “scene” in Lafayette images of a bustling downtown usually come to mind. But for the truly hip and in-the-know, those willing to walk an extra block or two, Artmosphere offers everything downtown can and more!

This well-kept secret of artists, oil rig divers, and professors alike serves up good food and drink along with incredible live bands in a laid back loungy indoor/outdoor art gallery. One look at the signs on Johnston street says it all, “Bistro, Live Music, Bar, Hookah Lounge.”

Artmosphere's menu contains lively funny names for its eclectic fare ranging from the traditional expectations; gumbo, spinach dip, nachos to some items a bit off the beaten path; Bisque, Hummus, Quesadillas, Mediterranean salads, and a unique selection of Wraps and Pizzas. There is something here for carnivore, omnivore and herbivore alike and the menu is always evolving.

There were so many interesting things on this menu it was hard to choose, but choose I did. I started out with the Tomato Bisque. It was warm, thick creamy, incredibly rich and incredibly satisfying! For my main course I moved on to their signature “sandwich,” Cheech's Up In Smoke Wrap. It was a soft tortilla wrap stuffed with black beans, chicken, and oh-so-melty cheese with a hint of spinach. For dessert I tried the Down Right Nuts! This is a nut-butter filled pastry sugar-glazed and grilled then slathered in chocolate sauce. It was quite the delightful surprise and a terrific ending to the meal. It also gave me that sufficient layer of protection for my next venture: the bar.

Artmosphere's bar is as eclectic as their menu. It features a wide selection of beers, both imported and local, wines, liqueurs, sake, and specialty drinks like their frozen chocolate martini. The bar hosts drink specials for local service industry on Mondays, 2-4-1 Martinis on Tuesdays and the permanently featured $1.50 Miller High Life 16oz. Can!!

Along with your drinks you might be tempted to retire to one of two patios and take advantage of the only place in Lafayette where you can rent a hookah for the evening and sample an array of flavoured tobaccos. Or you might just want to hang out on one of the big comfy couches and chairs amidst the work of local artists while grooving to the sound of that night's band.

This place never gets old as there's always something new going on. One of the few places open morning til late, seven days a week, you should definitely find the time to take in one of Lafayette's best kept secrets for the grand trifecta of food, drink and entertainment.
